Do you need a shortcut, like Ctrl + S to work on your page? Using JavaScript, it’s possible!

jQuery Code

Here is an example of how to create a Ctrl+Key based shortcut within javascript using the jQuery Library.

var isCtrl = false; $(document).keyup(function (e) { if(e.which == 17) isCtrl=false; }).keydown(function (e) { if(e.which == 17) isCtrl=true; if(e.which == 83 && isCtrl == true) { //run code for CTRL+S -- ie, save! return false; } });

Explanation

This code is quite simple but let me explain it a little bit. Whenever a key is pressed down, we first check to see if its CTRL being pressed (key code 17). If it is CTRL, then we set isCtrl to true in order to keep track when CTRL is activated, and of course we return isCtrl back to false once CTRL is released via the keyup event. We must keep track of the CTRL activity with a variable because the event will fire on a per-key basis. When you press ctrl+S for example, the event fires twice with two different key codes – making it impossible to simply check for both keys in one swift action.

Now going back to the keydown event; after the CTRL key check, we can look to see if other keys are being pressed. In this example, key code 83 is for the S key, which in one example could be useful for allowing quick saving of a form. And lastly, the return false; plays a very important role in keeping the browser from picking up that particular key combination and acting on it. In the example above of using CTRL+S, normally when you press that the browser will prompt you to save the page – but with the return false, the browser backs down and stays quiet.

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.

Update: This has been severely simplified by using a utility called TinyUmbrella, which can be downloaded from here. You would simply connect your device and click “Exit Recovery” to kick your device out of recovery mode. This utility does not require Windows XP (it is compatible) and even works on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. To downgrade your firmware, just shift-click in iTunes and choose the IPSW firmware file you need. Then, if the iPhone gets stuck in Recovery Mode, then use TinyUmbrella. It’s great for backing up your SHSHs on Cydia’s servers as well.

This information can be found here. Please note that I had success with this on Windows XP SP3, just like it states in the directions, but not on Windows 7 64-bit. You may want to try Windows XP Mode if you don’t have access to a computer with XP on it (I haven’t tested this). But just in case this information is deleted, here it is quoted:

Downgrading 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 and FIXING the No Service issue.

Hi to all of the people that are suffering from the No Service issue after downgrading your 3GS (new or old Bootrom) 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 . After suffering a couple of hour’s with the No Service issue, i finally got everything back in place(Back to 3.1.2, jailbroken and iPhone activated via itunes) after accidentally upgrading to 3.1.3 .

Please follow carefully, as most of what should be done had already been mentioned in previous posts/forums :

P.S you should have made a backup on Saurik’s server via Cydia, otherwise, i’m sorry to tell you that you can not proceed with the downgrade to 3.1.2

1. First of all download/save to your computer firmware 3.1.2 for your iphone, can be downloaded from here Download the new iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware | Redmond Pie .

2. Edit your computer Host to fake iTunes and make it believe it’s communicating with Apple, but instead make it communicate with Saurik’s server. Follow this link to show you have to edit your host file for mac How to edit the hosts file in Mac OS X – Leopard Decoding the Web .

3. Add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com to the end of the file and save the file and while the Terminal is open and you’ve already exited the host file, type dscacheutil -flushcache and hit enter.

4. Now put your iPhone in DFU mode, i would like to emphasis that you should put it in DFU mode not Recovery mode. Follow this like to know how to get it in DFU mode What is Difference Between Recovery Mode and DFU Mode | iPhone 3G S .

5. For Mac press on the Option key on your keyboard and then click restore on iTunes. Specify where you’ve saved the downloaded 3.1.2 firmware in step 1 .

6. While restoring, an error 1015 will occur, don’t panic!! let the iphone reboot and the Connect to iTunes screen appear.

7. When stuck on the Connect to iTunes screen, download iRecovery from here iHackintosh iRecovery Package for Windows & Mac.rar .

*8.1 To start iRecovery on mac, simply open the command line applicaiton(Terminal), and then DRAG the iRecovery file from the location you’ve extracted it and DROP it inside the Terminal window and add to the end of the command line that is automatically written ‘-s’ so it should be ‘irecovery -s’.

**8.2 To start iRecovery on windows, first extract the iRecovery to the root directory “c: \” of your hard disk, then run the exe file ‘libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.2.exe’ already contained in the archive downloaded in step 7, then open windows command line application ‘cmd’ and type ‘irecovery -s’ while you are at c: \

*** Note for Windows users : BEFORE INSTALLING libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.2, right click the file and set it to run under compatibility mode for Windows xp sp2. Thanks to gangsta415 and pappajohn for pointing that out, as i’m not a windows person

9. When you are left with command line empty, type in the following :
setenv auto-boot true “hit enter”
saveenv “hit enter”
/exit “hit enter”

10. Reboot your iPhone by pressing and holding the sleep/power button and the home button until the iPhone display turn off.

11. Have a SIM card inserted in your iPhone.

12. While the iPhone is still connected to your computer and iTunes running, Start your iPhone normally by pressing on the Sleep/Power button.

12. Wait until the iPhone get ACTIVATED by iTunes and then you can jailbreak it by any method you’d like (I prefer BlackraIn).

Hoping that i’ve made someone’s day and that my instructions was easy to follow. Kindly post me your feedback.

Enjoy your back to life jailbroken and activated 3.1.2 iPhone 3GS.

This is a quick post just to put some necessary information in one place.

For may ASP.NET examples you will find online, they are geared towards C# and not VB.NET. As a result, if you are not immediately familiar with C#, you may do like I did, which is get stuck on something simple for a week and a half.

Just in case you don’t know, to update a page, the absolute worse way is to do a postback. A better way, but still resource consuming, is to use UpdatePanels. However, it is possible to use jQuery to call a single method without posting an incredible amount of information to update a single element on a page (or more, if you like.)

The following will be a simple example that changes text into the current date and time.

Part – 1: Code-Behind

In your code-behind file (pagename.aspx.vb), at the very least, have the following:

Imports System.Web.Services
Partial Public Class _Default

Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

<WebMethod()> Public Shared Function GetDate() As String

Return Date.Now.ToString

End Function

End Class

In C#, you will see “Static” in the method declaration; the VB.NET equivalent for methods is “Shared.”

Something else important that I learned is that since these methods have to be shared, you cannot access global variables without an explicit instance of the variable. This eliminates accessing controls from within a shared method, but using the following code, you can still access session variables:

HttpContext.Current.Session(“Name”)

where “name” is the name of the session variable you would like to access.

Part 2 – jQuery & AJAX

Visual Studio 2008 SP1 officially supports jQuery Intellisense. Download the required .vsdoc file and add it to your project. Make sure it ends in .vsdoc (not .vsdoc2 or anything else)!

Your jQuery code should look like this:

<script src="jquery-1.3.2-vsdoc.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" >
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#result").click(function() {

$.ajax({

type: "POST",

url: "Default.aspx/GetDate",

data: "{}",

contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",

dataType: "json",

async: true,

cache: false,

success: function(msg) {

// Do something interesting here.

$("#result").text(msg);

}

});

}); // end of ajax

}); // document ready function

</script>

Part 3 – Web.config

If you are using ASP.NET 3.5, then you can skip this step, because the ASP.NET AJAX Extensions are already installed.

Once you have the XAMPP self-extracting RAR archive installed, view your “Path” environmental variables by going to Start –> Run –> and type:

SYSDM.CPL

This will open the System Properties window. Click on the “Advanced” tab, then on “Environmental Variables.” In the box under “System Variables,” scroll down until you find “Path.” At the end, add a colon (;) and then type the following:

C:\xampp\php\

where C:\xampp is the path to your installation of XAMPP. To check your syntax, simply type the following from the command prompt:

php -l “path to PHP file”

If you have an iPhone and either Air Sharing or Files Lite, you will see that with Bonjour (networking software installed with iTunes) you can have a dedicated IP address for transferring files back and forth.

The problem is, however, is that it never seemed to work.

The answer is in the Webclient service. It needs to be running in order for Bonjour to work. To start the Webclient service, go to:

Start –> Run and type:

Services.msc

When the “Services” window appears, simply look for the Webclient service and double-click it to open the “Properties” window. Not only can you start the service here, but you can set to do so automatically on startup!

Afterwards, entering you iPhone’s URL in a web browser should should work. How to fix the horrendous speed of WebDAV on Windows 7 is another story…
